King David

The Story of David is one of the most interesting, fast-moving and inspiring stories of the Bible. David, the shepherd boy, who was chosen by God to rule His people in Israel and reached the throne at the age of thirty after many years of difficulty and persecution. David, the boy, soothed King Saul with music and killed the giant with a sling. David, the towering king, loved God and was wise. But his desire for a beautiful woman – another man’s wife – led to the death of his infant son… and deep sorrow for his son. His beloved eldest son, Abraham, led civil war against him, his other sons could not even wait till he was dead before they claimed the throne. Yet through all this David trusted God and followed Him.

When David ascended the throne Israel was a divided nation, weak and helpless, persecuted by its enemies on every side. David knit this nation together, conquered Jerusalem and made it his capital and conquered the Philistines and other nation. He left a mighty empire that stretched from the Euphrates river on the North to Egypt on the South…. From the Mediterranean Sea on the West to the Arabian desert on the east. Never before has Israel been so great…. and so united under God!
