What is bitterness?

Bitterness is a spirit that disturbs many believers besides being a sin. Bitterness is a mixture of disappointment, anger, and fear. Remember, anger graduates to bitterness if you don’t deal with it accordingly. By forgiving and letting go

In fact, Ephesians 4:26 states that, “In your anger do not sin.” “Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.” As believers, we must bear in mind that anger has a timeline; your anger shouldn’t exceed 12 hours.

Furthermore, bitterness makes you bitter instead of better and eventually leads to unforgiveness. What most of us are unaware of is that bitterness blocks the breakthrough to our destiny. Before you allow bitterness to control you, here’s what you need to keep in mind.

  • Bitterness is sin
  • When you deliberately fail to talk to someone you have no part in God’s kingdom
  • Bitterness is unforgiveness fermented
  • The more you hold on to past hurts, the more you become “drunk” on your pain
  • The devil uses anger to attack many
  • God can’t draw near a bitter person
  • To overcome bitterness, you must: forgive, stop dwelling there, and stop retelling
  • Bitterness blocks your physical and spiritual life; you’ll stagnate physically and spiritually. It’s no wonder many are worsening spiritually and physically
  • When you’re bitter, you can’t have breakthrough even in prayer
  • Bitterness creates space for the enemy
  • Bitterness is satan’s altar in your life-an altar is a point of contact. Therefore, when you’re about to rise financially, the enemy stands against you
  • This sin entangles easily similar to sins like lies and gossip
  • When you allow bitterness to take root in your life, you won’t succeed at any time because you’re limited
  • Bitterness is what’s “eating” many up
  • Bitterness holds you back
  • It’s like an acid that destroys its container; whatever you try fails
  • A bitter person holds grudges

The Results of Bitterness

When God is silent

It is easy to trust God when the bush is burning, the waters are parting and the mountains are shaking – it’s those silent years that are discouraging. But blessed is the person who does not interpret the silence of God as the indifference of God! It’s in the desert and not in the palace that God finds out the depths of our yieldedness. It’s when He’s silent, not when He speaks, that our faith is precious in His sight.

WEEKEND THOUGHTS

When ye come together, do this in remembrance of me. Let us remember Him in His suffering and glory.

It pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief. God the Father handed over him unto death. The LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. — Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

Being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth:

We see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine will, but the will of him that sent me. The cup which my father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

The Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.  My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, — Mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Have a blessed Lord ‘s day with every blessing from above.

WEEKEND THOUGHTS

Few words of consolation. Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither is his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. — While I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help, leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation. Be not thou far from me, O LORD, O my strength, haste thee to help me. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.  Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us. The Lord is good and stronghold in the day of thy trouble. Call unto me in the day of thy trouble. I shall deliver thee and thou shalt glorify me.

This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? For he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord.

Every blessing for the weekend.

WEEKEND THOUGHTS

The immutability of the Person of Jesus Christ our Lord in contrast to that which is mutable. The unchanging Person of Christ. The Creator remains, but creation change. We read in Heb.1:10. Thou Lord…Verse 11 ..Thou remainest; in Verse 12..Thou art the same. It is a three- fold declaration of the supremacy of the Creator over His creation. In contrast in verse 11.. They shall perish… They all shall wax old as doth a garment . In verse 12.. They shall be changed. But the Creator remains. Isa.34:4…the heaven shall be rolled together as a scroll: Rev.6:14.. The heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places .But the Creator remains. We read in OT of Jehovah .. Mal.3:6.. I am the Lord changeth not. The same what we read of the Person of Christ in NT.

The material creation is neither self sufficient nor eternal as it’s Creator.

Ps.102:25-27.. Thou shall endure..Heb.1:12.Thy years shall not fail. In Joh.8:58.. Before Abraham was I am… whose goings forth gave been from of old, from everlasting. The years of the changeless One shall not fail. The Creator is eternal. The Ancient of days .Dan.7:8. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou   art God. His existence can’t be measured in years. He abides forever and ever, the unchanging and ever existing and eternal. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords, is to be held in holy awe and given Him worship. He is thy Lord and worship thou Him. Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever.

The unchanging Person of Christ.

“In Thee, most perfectly expressed,

The Father’s glories shine,

Of the full Deity possessed,

Eternally divine.”

Every blessing for the weekend.

Jesus the name above all names

Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins. He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him and given Him a Name which is above every Name and it is excellent in all the earth…..Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved… They shall call  His name Immanuel, which is being interpreted “God with us”…holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour , which is Christ the Lord”…He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto Him the throne of His father David: and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end. And this  is His Name whereby He shall be called, ” The Lord our Righteousness. Jehovah Tsidkennu”…….that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth…..His Name is called “The Word of God”.. He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of the Almighty God. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a NAME written, ” KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and His Name One.

A good name is better than precious ointment:..” How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds in a believer’s ear! It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds, and drives away his ear. Dear Name! the Rock on which we build; Our Shield and hiding place; our never – failing treasury , filled with boundless stores of grace. Jesus, our Saviour, Shepherd, Friend, Prophet and Priest and King; Our Lord, our Life, our Way, our End, Accept the Praise we bring..”.From the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My Name shall be great among the Gentiles; And in every place incense shall be offered unto My Name and a pure offering: For My Name shall be great among the nations , saith the Lord of hosts…..Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Behold the Man whose Name is The Branch; and He shall grow up out of His place and He shall build the temple of the Lord; and He shall bear the glory and shall sit and rule upon His throne; and He shall be a priest upon His throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.  His Name shall endure for ever: his Name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed. My Lord and My God….He is thy Lord: Adonahy, Sovereign… and worship thou Him…I will make Thy Name to be remembered in all generations: Therefore shall the people praise Thee forever and ever. The hymns writer says..” But the high mysteries of His Name. An angel’s grasp transcend; The Father only ( glorious claim!) The Son can comprehend. Throughout the universe of bliss. The centre Thou and Sun, The eternal theme of praise is this, To heaven’s beloved One…His Names are glorious in their wondrous claims, His Titles famous in God’s vast domains; .. Alpha and Omega.. The First and the Last. ……Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory..JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.

HAVE A CHRISTO CENTERIC LORD’S DAY.

LETTING OUR LIGHT SHINE

Introduction

It’s taken from Matthew 5:16. The whole verse goes like this, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Let’s observe 3 things in this theme.

I. It’s a command.

A. A command is meant to be obeyed implicitly, explicitly and immediately.
B. A command is generally disliked by us. We have more taste for promises than commands. We are like children who go for jam and cream, and leave the bread slice uneaten.

II. It’s a command to let our light shine.

A. But the light can shine only if there is light.

1. We are the light of the world if have repented from our sins genuinely and believed on Lord Jesus Christ wholeheartedly.
2. We are the light of the world if we are truly born again and thoroughly saved.
3. In that case we are the children of light, not of darkness. As such, we are expected to live as children of light, and not participate in the deeds of darkness but expose them (Ephesians 5:8,10,11). We are expected to manifest the excellencies of the One who has called us out of darkness into his marvellous light (1Peter 2:9).
4. But if we aren’t saved then we aren’t light but darkness. In that case there no light. There is no question of letting our light shine when it’s not there.

B. We can let our light shine through good works. V. 16

1. When we love God with all of our heart, mind and strength, we are letting our light shine before others (Deuteronomy 6:5).
2. When we love our neighbours, we are letting our light shine before others (Leviticus 19:18).
3. When we love our enemies, forgive them, bless them and pray for them, we are letting our light shine before others (Matthew 5:44; Luke 6:28).
4. When we are living an exemplary life in the light of God’s word, we are letting our light shine for the glory of God.
5. When we share the gospel of salvation with those who are sitting in the darkness and the shadow of death, we are letting our light shine on them. It says in Matthew 4:15, 16, “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles- the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”

III. It’s a command, easily discarded.

A. We can hinder our light shining before others (Cf. Keeping our light under the basket).

1. Through hypocrisy.
2. Duplicity.
3. Dishonesty in finances.
4. False accounts.
5. False reports.
5. Sexual immorality, having illicit love affairs.
6. Deception.
7. Works of our sinful flesh (Galatians 5:19-21).

Conclusion

Are we letting our light shine before others through our good works? Or, are we hindering it through our deeds of darkness?

Are people glorifying God because of us? Or, are we a hindrance in their coming to faith?

Is God’s name blessed or blasphemed because of us? Is our light shining?
